  • Alena Kuznetsova is a professional multidisciplinary artist born in 1986. Lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine. Participated in local and international projects, author of 15 solo shows.


  • “My creative work includes painting, graphics, land art, video installation, and ceramic sculpture. In my artistic practice, I explore the concepts of movement and changes, the cycling phenomenon of life and death, which are mainly felt in the context of events taking place in Ukraine from 2014 to nowadays.”

I began to paint these works at my Kyiv studio in the beginning of the full-scale invasion, as a continuation of my previous Gamma series. I just wanted to continue my art practice that time as a therapy in the middle of the shellings and uncertainty.. 🧡Mycelium🤎 107*96 cm, oil, acrylic on canvas. Available 🙌 🍂🕸️🍄‍🟫 Mycelium is an underground network of tiny gifs: that is actually fungi itself. Decentralised system, which has intellectual manifestations, collaborates with trees, digests organic matter, and has far more interesting peculiarities (most - not studied yet). Mushroom, which we know, is a fruiting body of mycelium, arises only within certain conditions. The largest living organism on Earth is the dark agaric mushroom (Armillaria ostoyae), which grows in Oregon, USA. Its underground part (mycelium) covers an area of ​​8.4 sq. km and weighs approximately 600 tons, and its age is estimated at 2400-8650 years. #kuznetsovafamiliarground

«October Composition» (74*131*6 сm) is a part of the Familiar Ground series and had a long and exciting creation process. I was searching for a balanced composition in various ways: painting without a sketch, taking a photo in between, sketching digitally, finished after a chosen option 😁 The shades are in a close relationship: if one changes, I often have to change another. The painting is made on a thick handmade stretcher and has a beautiful graphic end face 👌 After all, the important component here is Colour that reflects the autumn palette 🍁🍃🌼 — coming soon! #kuznetsovafamiliarground

If you draw an imaginary horizontal line across the middle of this piece, it will resemble a landscape where trees are reflected on the surface of a lake. In terms of technique, it also echoes my previous series Mechanical Ballet, since here too I experiment with graphic elements and texture, not just acrylic and oil. The color palette is warm and autumnal, as the work was created in the fall of 2024.
