In this series of objects, I work with animal bones as material carriers of death and memory, combining them with living flowers that appear to grow through them. This gesture is not decorative; rather, it exposes the tension between biological life and what remains after it, between organic growth and the irreversibility of decay. The bone here functions as a trace, as a document, as a structure that outlives the body.<\/span><\/p>\nThe series \u201cFlowers or Explosions\u201d as a whole engages with the radical dichotomy of life and death, which in the context of war is no longer abstract but acquires an immediate, physical proximity. It reflects a state of split consciousness, where the experience of everyday life coexists with the constant threat of destruction. War produces a specific field (psychological, informational, affective) within which we are forced to operate: to live, work, create, lose, and at the same time prepare for our own death.<\/span><\/p>\nIn this context, the flower ceases to function merely as a symbol of life; it becomes its extreme manifestation: brief, vulnerable, almost excessive in its intensity. The emergence of snowdrops, lesser celandine, and corydalis in the spring of 2022 had for me not a calming, but a sharply heightened effect; it was an encounter with the fact that life persists despite systemic destruction.<\/span><\/p>\nThe use of bones in my practice has a longer history. As early as 2015, I worked with a dolphin skull found on the island of Tendra in the Black Sea, a biosphere reserve, in the work Temporality. In 2023, a bone I found by chance near my parents\u2019 summer house became the starting point for this series. For the realization of the project, I also used bones from the collection of the National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, subjecting them to chemical bleaching \u2013 a process that further emphasizes the boundary between the natural and artificial intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
